Ambassador Schools Project

The European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS) programme gives students the opportunity to understand their rights as EU citizens and learn about the role of the European Parliament. The project aims to raise awareness of European parliamentary democracy and European values, and also encourages students to actively participate in EU democratic processes.

ACTIVITIES

The schools selected to participate in the programme select teachers and students, appointing them as lead and deputy ambassadors respectively, who are responsible for implementing the programme. Teachers are responsible for the educational aspect, mainly preparing lessons on European parliamentary democracy. Teachers can use the European Parliament’s interactive teaching materials, which include general information and facts about the EU, training on democratic skills and participation, classroom simulation games and quizzes. Teachers and students are responsible for developing activities such as setting up an EU information point, organising Europe Day events or creating content for social media. They communicate with MEPs, other ambassadors and partners and interact with their community.

ACCREDITATION AND REWARDS

At the end of each school year, the activities carried out by schools are evaluated. After successful completion of the programme, schools are certified as Ambassador Schools and certificates are awarded to the Principal and Deputy Ambassadors at ceremonies organised by the local European Parliament Liaison Offices, often in the presence of MEPs, representatives of national and local authorities and partners. Teachers and students may be given the opportunity to participate in Euroscola sessions in Strasbourg or other events organised by the European Parliament in the Member States and in Brussels or Strasbourg.
