According to the EU Recommendation, communication in foreign languages largely shares the same skills as communication in the mother tongue: it is based on the ability to understand, express and interpret concepts, thoughts, feelings, facts and opinions, both in oral and in the writing. Listening, speaking, reading and writing in a variety of societal and cultural contexts (in education and training, work, home and leisure) according to a person's wishes or needs. Communication in foreign languages also requires skills such as mediation and intercultural understanding. This, together with the idea of combining methods and culture, is the basis for the main objectives of the project, which are:

- improve the language teaching skills of adult educators/teachers;

- strengthen the general competences of teaching methodology;

- reinforce mediation skills in conflicts caused by cultural differences;

- develop an awareness of culture and its impact on behavior, especially communication;

- improve teachers' skills to work with culturally diverse groups;

- get practical ideas on how to apply different communication strategies in different cross-cultural contexts;

- compare and contrast values, beliefs, perceptions and communication styles of cultures;

- improve students' communicative skills, fluency and confidence in the use of the language;

- identify different learning styles and strategies of adult learners and apply appropriate methods and techniques to adult teaching;

- improve the competitiveness of trainees in the labor market and other fields.

Transnational Encounters

Throughout the project, three transnational meetings took place, in which teaching and non-teaching employees with links to Adult Education and Youth Education at the Professional School of Salvaterra de Magos participated:

Materials Produced

Throughout the project, English teachers from the partner schools developed multiple materials for learning the English language through cultural content, organized into different categories, applied to the target audiences of the various institutions:

Dissemination

Each institution was responsible for organizing a dissemination event (Multiplier Event) of the project activities.

Like the partner schools, at EPSM, due to the constraints caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the event took place in online format, on 12/21/2020.
